Admission Schedule
  1. Documents submission for Graduate Program : Jan. 30th(Mon.), 2012 ~ Feb. 14th(Tue.) by 17:00 : The required documents should arrive at the SNU Office of Admissions by this date.
  2. Recommendation to NIIED : April 10th(Tue.), 2012 : Admitted students will receive individual result notification emails
  3. Final Selection by NIIED : Apr. 30th(Mon.) 2012
Eligibility for Application
  1. Applicant and his/her parents must be citizens of a foreign country.
    • Applicant who has Korean citizenship is not eligible to apply
  2. Applicants should be in good health, both mentally and physically, to stay in Korea for a long period of time.
    • Applicants must submit “Personal Medical Assessment” during the application process and if admitted, he/she must submit an “Official Medical Assessment” issued by a medical doctor. If serious conditions are found including HIV and drug related issues in which long term international study can be affected, admission will be rescinded prior to applicant’s entry to Korea.
  3. Should be under 40 years of age as of September 1, 2012 (Born post September 1, 1972)
  4. Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree as of August 31, 2012.
    • If applicant fails to obtain the necessary degree by August 31, 2012, his/her eligibility will be revoked.
    • For Master’s program: students who hold a Bachelor’s degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than Bachelor’s degree
    • For Doctoral program: students who hold a Master’s degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than Master’s degree.
    • If you are an expected graduate, you must submit the certificate of expected graduation for the application process and submit the official certificate of graduation by the date of your entrance to Korea on September 1, 2012.
    • Those who attended or graduated from a University in Korea for their undergraduate/graduate studies are not eligible to apply.
  5. Possess a GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 (letter grade of B) or at least 80% on a percentage scale or those who can be considered to have credentials equivalent to above.
    • If the official grade cannot be calculated on a percentage scale or into a GPA, applicant must submit an official document issued by their school explaining the reason for the same.
NOTE
  1. If applicant submits either a Korean Proficiency Exam Score(TOPIK, KLPT) or English Proficiency Exam Score(TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS) they will be awarded additional points or be given a preferential selection status in the initial round of evaluation. (If applicable)
  2. Applicants for the programs in the field of Science will be given preferential selection, should there be other applicants with equivalent eligibility or evaluation score.
Application Procedure
Admission decisions are based on the candidate’s academic achievements and potential, as well as his or her personal accomplishments.
The admissions committee reviews a number of factors including records of past studies (such as GPA), study plan, personal statement, and letters of recommendation. Other achievement records and specific qualifications such as language proficiency are also taken into consideration. Candidate’s application is reviewed in the context of the level of studies completed, quality of achievement and characteristics of institutions attended. Finally, the appropriateness of the applicant’s academic goals and suitability of preparation for the proposed program of studies are assessed.
Interviews, examinations, and/or additional documents may be required from the applicant, based on the policy of the specific college or department. Applicants will be notified via individual email should an interview or a separate exam be necessary.

    • Built in 1946, Seoul National University’s Central Library possesses modern facilities proving it’s status, in addition to the individual libraries run autonomously by the colleges

    • Currently, over 100 different clubs are active registered organizations involved in various areas including sports, culture, performing arts, academic society, religion and etc.
  4. SISA (SNU International Student Association)
    • A community for international students
Important Notes
  • Submit the completed ‘Desired area of study’ form, along with rest of the required application documents to the Office of Admissions by February 14, 2012 (Tue.).
  • Those who attended or graduated from a University in Korea for their undergraduate/graduate studies are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicant may apply through only a single recommending institution, which includes diplomatic office, university, adoption organization. If applicant applies via more than one recommending institution, (i.e. two different universities or from a university and from diplomatic office) he/she will be eliminated from the selection list.
  • Documents submitted to the recommending institution for the application process, will not be returned.
  • If the information submitted in the application package is unclear or if any part of the application material are missing, his/her application will not be sent for evaluation. If the above issues are found after the admission has been offered, the offered admission will be rescinded.
  • All submitted documents must be originals. If the document is not drafted in Korean or English, it must be accompanied by a certified Korean or English translation.
  • Personal Medical Assessment cannot contain any false information. If any conditions which can affect long term international study are found during the health examination conducted after the offered admission, the admission decision will be rescinded.
  • Submit 1~2 copies of the dissertation/thesis for the record of the same
  • For record of awards, submit photocopies of the awards notarized/certified by the issuing institution.
  • Once the applicant is offered admission, he/she cannot change the school of their choice.
  • If submitting a photocopy of the required document, applicant must obtain a form of certification/notary from the issuing institution confirming the validity of the copy as being the same as the original.
  • Specifics regarding the grades/points awarded or recommendation rankings will not be announced.
  • If additional information are required during the evaluation process, additional documents may be requested for verification purposes.
  • Applicant is responsible for any disadvantage resulting from error, omission or incorrect input of requested information. Please pay careful attention while completing the application form to avoid any issues. Once the application has been submitted, changes (including the application information or desired program of their choice) cannot be made.
  • Desired program of study cannot be changed even after the enrollment.
